Welcome to the Petrarch Project

Welcome to the Oregon Petrarch Open Book Project: "Petrarch is again in sight." In a poem dedicated to Osip Mandelstam, a Russian poet who disappeared in Stalin's Gulag, Paul Celan speaks of a petrified desert where it is still possible to see a rudimentary form that leads him to conclude: "Petrarch is again in sight."

The OPOB includes Ettore Modigliani’s diplomatic edition of the Rerum vulgarium fragmenta; Gianfranco Contini’s and Giuseppe Savoca’s critical editions; the cod. Queriniano D II 21; the Inc. Queriniano G V 15; Alessandro Vellutello’s commentary; complete English, Spanish and French translations and partial translations in Russian, Chinese, Japanese and German.

New Commentaries

We recently added links to the digital copies of Giacomo Leopardi's Rime Di Francesco Petrarca colla interpretazione composta dal Conte Giacomo Leopardi (Milano: Stella, 1826) and Carducci-Ferrari's Le Rime di Francesco Petrarca di su gli originali: Commentate da Giosuè Carducci e Severino Ferrari (Firenze: Sansoni, 1899).
