Manuscripts

The Rvf were a life long endeavor and took different configurations throughout the years. Petrarch was still operating on the partially holograph ms. Vat. lat. 3195 –that includes the supposedly last one of these configurations– until the last days of his life, when he was rearranging the numbering of poems 336-366.  Also, he kept a working draft of the Rvf (Codice degli abbozzi: ms. Vat. lat. 3196) along with its fair copy. Another important manuscripts of the Rvf is the codex  Vatican Chigiano L.V. 176, copied between 1363 and 1364 by one of Petrarca's closest friend, Giovanni Boccaccio. The Vaticana Library digitized these three crucial manuscripts.
